The FUSING of HIP-HOP and REGGAE, should NOT to be considered an EASY MASTERY! In fact, when others had tried and failed, it was the Barbadian born artist, RAYVON, who managed to fuse the two genres SUCCESSFYLLY! This of course, resulted in him being dubbed the “AMBASSADOR of HIP-HOP/REGGAE." RAYVON had shared the stage with such legendary figures as ROLLING STONES and MICHAEL JACKSON, and his pop-infused Caribbean flavor had undoubtedly paved the way for the newer Barbadian artists like RIHANNA and JAICKO. His third album, self-titled, “RAYVON,” features track work from industry heavyweight like JAH SNOWCONE, SEAN PAUL and VYBZ KARTEL. But RAYVON is probably best known for his collaborations with the GRAMMY award winning artist, SHAGGY. The two did a series of songs in the 90‘s which culminated into their regional hit, “BIG UP.” “We both got our break with that record,” assured RAYVON. “It put us in the reggae/dancehall spotlight. I had a smooth-edged style of singing... he had that rough DJ style... and the chemistry was amazing." RAYVON had also covered the classic, “RIVERS OF BABYLON” on the B-side of SHAGGY's 1993 hit, “OH CAROLINA." The following year, RAYVON's solo star began to brighten, when he released his hip-hop/reggae classic, “NO GUNS, NO MURDER," which hit a trifecta on BILLBOARD, ranking simultaneously on the HOT 100, RAP SINGLES and R&B/HIP-HOP charts. In 1995, RAYVON's career accelerated when he collaborated with SHAGGY, on, “IN THE SUMMERTIME." This, of course, was featured on SHAGGY's GRAMMY award-winning album, “BOOMBASTIC.” The duo appeared on shows like REGIS & KELLY, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, JAY LENO, DAVID LETTERMAN, and ALL MY CHILDREN, to mention a few. RAYVON had released two albums prior to "RAYVON," titled “HEAR MY CRY,” and “MY BAD."
